King, You Have Fallen

Steel, Concrete

„King, you have fallen“ is a sculpture that explores the fleeting nature of power. Throughout human history, power has repeatedly shifted hands, often leading to great suffering for many.

The steel crown in this piece symbolizes power, with its sharp spikes suggesting the potential brutality and harm power can wield. It reflects not only the ruthlessness of tyrannical rulers but also the dynamics of toxic relationships where one partner holds dominance over the other. Power, as depicted here, is never balanced; it exists as a disbalance between the powerful and the oppressed, represented by the tilted angle of the crown. If relationships were truly balanced, no one would have authority over another.

The three rings in the crown stand for the past, present, and future, indicating that the misuse of power is a recurring theme throughout time—something that has happened, is happening, and will likely happen again. Yet, the crown is placed upside down, symbolizing the fragility and transient nature of power. Just as quickly as power is seized, it can be lost just as swiftly.

Anchoring the crown is a concrete block, symbolizing the common people. Throughout history, the people have risen against those in power, toppling rulers and altering the course of events. The concrete, an ordinary material, represents simplicity and openness, standing in stark contrast to the ornate steel crown above it. This juxtaposition highlights the enduring strength of the people against the temporary, fragile nature of power itself.
